Ministry

Teach, Live, and Share Christ's Love

Trinity's ministry, like its building, has grown and changed over the decades. At one time there were numerous families with young children in the Hovland area. Now there are numerous retirees who often have children, grandchildren, and friends visit them, so Sunday School might vary from two children to more than a dozen! Thanks to the many talented musicians in the area, we often have musicians to provide special music for us. We have a relationship with a congregation in Haiti that has given us a global perspective.

All are welcome at Trinity! Worship with Holy Communion is every Sunday at 9:00 a.m. Visitors sometime just wander in from Highway 61. In the summer we have a large number of seasonal residents who join us every Sunday. Following the service, we regroup downstairs for that favorite Lutheran activity, the coffee hour.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, our worship shifted from inside to outside after it became warm enough to gather at our outdoor space, Trinity Trails. Beside the campfire ring and benches, there is a network of trails presenting a place for quiet contemplation or a quick hike through the forest as it changes each week. This Gathering Space has allowed us to continue worship and yet maintain the necessary physical distancing. Minnesotans are a hearty bunch and we've been known to worship outdoors in winter!

In normal times, in addition to the 9:00 a.m. worship, we have Evening Prayer (Vespers) at 6:30 p.m. each Wednesday evening. It will be missed in 2020.  We have participated in the Hovland Arts Festival each July 4th weekend for many years by providing food for those perusing the festival.

An unseen, but very important part of Trinity's ministry to the community includes pastoral visits to homes, the care center, or hospitals in Grand Marais and Duluth. Anyone with a pastoral need is encouraged to contact the pastoral staff through the church office.

Trinity Lutheran Church, is itself a work of art, and home to several outstanding pieces of art and architecture. After more than 60 years with no indoor plumbing, Trinity members pitched in and built a beautiful addition with a narthex, toilets and office space. Ask us for a tour.

There's a place for you at Trinity. Join us as we celebrate God’s love and grace in this beautiful place! God bless you now and always.
